San Diego High EC has a strong volunteer base.

Founding SDHEC PTSA Parents

The students depend on parents and interested community members to provide help at dances, games, and sporting events.  They also supervise student fundraisers and events and help support their teen’s graduation activities.  For example, the freshman parents recently supervised selling snacks at a football game and with the their help, the freshman class raised over $1,000 in just a few hours!  In addition, parents can have fun chaperoning student dances and other activities while making new friends.

PTSA supports the parents through a strong public relations publications such as the PTSA Handbook.  It also supports the Parent Center and Parent Advocacy where parents have a forum to address issues important to them.  PTSA has ties to San Diego City School Parent Congress which provide parents information about district reform efforts, academic achievement of students and other educational issues.

TEACHERS AND  PRINCIPALS ENSURES STUDENTS RECEIVE THE BEST EDUCATION POSSIBLE

Ms. Kratchet

The association sponsors an orientation dinner for new 9th and 10th grade students and their families and offers other informative meetings throughout the year. Some members of the PTSA Executive Committee hold liaison positions on many of the schools administrative committees such as the Parent Center. Their purpose is to act as advocate for both parents and students. The PTSA also sponsors the Teacher's Back to School Breakfast and also a Holiday Buffet for teachers in December.

STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND MEETINGS
AND SHARE THEIR CONCERNS

ASB representatives and interested students bring fresh ideas and keep the student body aware of new issues. PTSA supports many student programs including Grad Nite and provides the "Cords of Distinction" for graduating seniors.  PTSA also helps run the school dances, staffs the concession stands at ASB sporting events and has been involved in November's Health Faire.

Our recent membership drive campaign incentive for student membership included many prizes and free food from the HUT!  Furthermore senior student members are eligible to receive the annual Student Member Award.  One lucky senior student member selected by random will receive $500 when they show proof of post-high school registration.  Feel lucky? Join today!!!

The PTSA,  through "The Hut" raises funds selling nutritious sandwiches, snacks and treats to students attending after-school programs. This money is used to fund the Stout Awards. These gifts of $200-250 are awarded to selected seniors as an incentive to pursue their higher education.   Any senior may apply and will receive the award if they provide proof of attendance in a school after high school.  These may include vocational schools.
